The picture above lists the sub-genre's of each horror, alongside it are the amount of films made in that sub-genre, then the most successful film of that category and the gross of the movie in millions.
From this statistic, I picked out that the most commonly made sub-genre of horror is supernatural. This helped with our opening because we realised that the audience enjoys the supernatural horrors due to the large quantity of the horror sub-genre being made. Other institutions research showed the audience interest into this category, meaning this helped us with our research because we know that supernatural is likely to be the most successful. With this and our questionnaire, we will target a supernatural and paranormal sub-genre.
From this data I also saw that the supernatural did not just have the most sub-genre films made but also the most successful with Sixth Sense. It made a box office gross of $672, 806, 292. This is huge, showing that supernatural is again the most successful and attracts the audience the most, hence the large gross.
